One of the first things you saw when walking into the library was the brick relief wall. Many people ask what the designs are supposed to represent. In the words of the sculptor, Harold Balazs, "...one of the recurring themes in my work is the juxtapositioning of disparate ideas. So it seemed natural to use such an idea for a library, which is after all, a repository of many ideas." This wall will become a focal point in the newly renovated library and the construction crew is working gingerly around it to make sure it stays safe.

Interesting blog. It breaks my heart to see the old library come tumbling down, but I live in hope that the new building will be just as welcoming as the old one was.
I'll just avoid the corner of Swift and Northgate for now ...
Thanks! It's been a bit hard on most of the staff as well. We KNOW the old building was out of date and needed major repair, but we all love that old building as well. We are doing everything we can to make sure that the new building stays as open and welcoming as possible! Thanks for the comment and keep checking back.
